In 1992, our father Sylvain Degage purchased 10 acres on a small motu off the southeast coast of Huahine Iti. He was seeking a lifestyle change. Sylvain wanted to move away from the 'relative' hustle and bustle of capital city Papeete, move out of the office and back to nature. He wanted to work the land and plant coconut trees and perhaps watermelons.
Sylvain grew up on the waters edge in Auae, just outside Papeete, and like most Maohi much of his life was in the lagoon or on the ocean. He often brought his grandchildren to the island for their schoolholidays, sharing good food and wine was a passion for Sylvain so lunch almost everyday at the local restaurants was the norm.
Sadly Papa Sylvain passed on well before his time. Grief stricken the family refused to go back to this paradise that reminded them so much of their lost father and grandfather. Time heals everything or so they say.
Some 5 years later we wish to continue his vision of a new life that embraces the values of family, the natural environment and good memories. We have a vision for our future, we call it Huahine Harmony.
Today, ( 2013) we have a small villa on the property our vision is to share the land with the immediate family of Sylvain Degage. The daughters of Sylvain, Titaua and Heipua, plan to build 8 villas on the land that will, in time, be for the grandchildren. Two of these we may sell to like minded individuals.
